"IT'S NOT ABOUT WHAT A BUILDING LOOKS LIKE, IT'S SHAPE OR COLOR. A BUILDING IS SUCCESSFUL WHEN THE PEOPLE WHO USE THE BUILDING CAN SAY THAT IT WORKS. IT'S NOT JUST THE SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS OR THE MECHANICAL SYSTEMS, OR THE MATERIALS USED IN THE FINISHES. WHAT MATTERS, IN THE END, IS HOW THESE ELEMENTS WORK HARMONIOUSLY. EVERY ELEMENT IN THE DESIGN MUST HAVE A REASON FOR EXISTING."

I'VE HAD A PASSION FOR ART SINCE I WAS A TODDLER. IN GRADE SCHOOL, I WAS ALWAYS KNOWN AS THE CREATIVE ONE, ALWAYS BEING VOLUNTEERED TO DRAW POSTERS AND BANNERS. I WENT ON TO CARRY MY CREATIVITY THROUGH THE ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM AT HAWAII COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WHERE IN THE LAST SEMESTER, THE FINAL PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A 1,200 SQ. FT. SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENCE. IN THE END, ONE OF THE PROJECTS WAS TO BE SELECTED TO BE BUILT BY FELLOW HCC CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS AND GRANTED TO A NATIVE HAWAIIAN FAMILY, PART OF AN ANNUAL PROGRAM TO GIVE BACK TO DESERVING FAMILIES. WITH A FEW MINOR CHANGES, MY FLOOR PLAN DESIGN WAS SELECTED. IT WAS AT THAT MOMENT I REALIZED THAT ARCHITECTURE WAS SOMETHING I COULD DO.
