THIS PROJECT SEEKS TO BE A LINK BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY AND THE COMMUNITY AROUND MARYLAND PARKWAY. LAS VEGAS IS A TRANCIENT CITY AND PRESENTS AN ELEMENT OF DISCONNECTION BETWEEN THE CULTURES IN THE CITY. THEREFORE, THE PROGRAM CHOSEN FOR THIS PROJECT INCLUDES RETAIL AT THE BASE FLOORS, A CULTURAL CENTER, AND GRADUATE ART AND ARCHITECTURE STUDIOS. THE CULTURAL CENTER IS PRESENTED AS A GEM AND A LINK, ENCASED IN A FRAME CREATED BY THE EDUCATION AND RETAIL COMPONENT. THE RIBBON OF THE CULTURAL CENTER TIES THE UNIVERSITY TO THE COMMUNITY. THE ABUTTING FORMS AND MATERIALS REFLECT THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FUNCTIONS WITHIN. THE ART AND ARCHITECTURE STUDIOS AT THE TOP TWO FLOORS WERE CHOSEN TO PROVIDE A CONNECTION BETWEEN TWO DISCIPLINES WHICH ARE ACROSS THE CAMPUS.
